Nyx Mascara - Doll Eye

Posted by Sarchie at 4:03 AM 0 comments

I was looking for a new mascara, one that wouldn't cost a bajillion dollars (slight exaggeration), a mascara that was inexpensive and gave a great result. I don't remember exactly how I came across it, I think Cherry Culture was having a sale, anyway I found Doll Eye by Nyx, the description went a little like this:

"Hello doll-face! For irresistible, fluttery eyelashes, try this mascara on for size. Doll Eye Mascara uses a unique blend of natural oils, Vitamin E and nylon fibers to extend eyelashes to almost faux proportions. Choose from lengthening, volumizing or waterproof versions."

I looked up some reviews, mostly positive so I gave it a go. I think I paid $6.00 (usually $9.00) and I have to say it was money well spent, I'm sold,  I love this mascara!

I brought it in the waterproof version, I find that a lot of non-waterproof mascaras smudge. I was a little worried that being so inexpensive that the fibers would shed throughout the day but I need not worried as this was the perfect mascara. I love how easy it is to apply and remove and I love that it doesn't smudge. Yep! that's right, you heard me, no panda eyes!
I loved this mascara so much I have recommended it to all my girlfriends. I give this baby a  5 out 5, A++ and a thumbs up.

I brought mine from Cherry Culture $9.00 in the United States, they have really good shipping rates to Australia. You can also buy from Crush Cosmetics $13.95 or Lipstick Republic $12.00 in Australia

If anyone else has tried this mascara I would love to know what you think.

Bella Box May

Posted by Sarchie at 5:34 AM 1 comments

This months products included:

What I liked:

All of it. I can use and will use every single product in this months box, some more than others but all of it was beneficial for me.

Bloom Lip-stain was a nice surprise. One application lasted a long time and was in a lovely, wearable colour: Rhubarb.

Manicare disposable mascara brushes will defiantly come in handy, you can never have too many, especially if you are a make-up artist using on clients.

La Roche-Posay Effaclar Foaming Gel - I would like to try this for a month or so and see if it will help with my break outs, so far I have been using a week and I have not notice any new problems but time will see. It doesn't dry my skin out after use either.

La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo - a good follow up to the foaming gel, so far so good.

Nanoblur - not yet tried but excited to give it a go. I am waiting on a special occasion to come up, so I can test it to the max.

Sanctury Spa Brightening Facial Illuminating moisture Lotion - It feels light, smells divine and illuminates the skin with a natural looking glow. I don't feel like I have been hit with too much fairy dust

Overall thoughts for the box this month:

Mays box was full of wondrous products, most I had never heard of before. All of it was suitable for my skin-type. I got a laugh out of the Udder Cream, love the name and loved the product.

Chi Chi BB Cream

Posted by Sarchie at 11:22 PM 2 comments
I'm in love with this product!

Chi Chi BB Cream           Price: $19.95
It promotes anti-aging & ultra moisturizing with 14 skin conditioning agents including: Caviar Extract, Collguard, Olive Fruit Oil, Green Tea Extract, White Mulberry Tree Extract, Gotu Kola Extract and Vitamin E.

Since finding this I barely use my  Revlon Colorstay foundation, I only use it for days when I need extra staying power and extra coverage but I wear the BB Cream underneath. It makes my skin look and feel healthy.
It can be worn underneath foundation for a base or on its own for a light to medium coverage. If you have oily skin I would use a mattifying primer underneath and a finishing powder such as Palladio Rice Powder as it has can have an oily finish.

It comes in three shades: Light, Medium and Medium to Tanned

Pros

Anti-aging
Light Weight
Light - Medium coverage
Easily Blendable
Inexpensive
SPF 30

Cons

Can be oily, not as user friendly to people with oily prone skin, however this can be helped with applying a mattifying  primer and a oil soaking finishing powder (Palladio Rice Powder)
Only three shades

It can be brought from Myer, Target or their Website
Note: They often have sales in-store make sure to take advantage of them.

Bellabox - April

Posted by Sarchie at 1:07 AM 0 comments

April 2013

What I was excited about:

Everything, I wanted to try it all as soon as I opened the box. I had not experienced that much excitement in a long time.

What surprised me:

Lady Gaga - Fame. I don't like a lot of the perfumes endorsed by singers/actors, I find that they're pretty to look at but the quality is nothing special and the fragrances are so so. I loved this fragrance. I put some on in the morning before work and its still lasting 8hrs later. The fragrance is lovely.

What I liked:

Cellilux, it was a strange sensation as it dried, almost burning but it made my skin feel great. I thought it might become dusty when dry  but it sets to the face really well, no mess when dry and it washes away with ease. Loved it. I'm not sure if I could justify the $69.00 price tag for 60g. It would want to last a long time... Maybe...

Indigo Facial Scrub: I love scrubs with fine particles, to me it feels like its getting into the smaller pores. I may be wrong but I love how it feels on the skin, like a light sanding.  $56.00 is pretty pricey though and these days you can make your own scrubs for a fraction of the price...

Jacquline Evans Argan & Rosehip Moisturizing Cream: It is advertised more for dry and mature skin types but I love using under the eye area. The skin under my eyes is a lot softer and it helps with any fine lines, not that I have much but it makes me look alive when I'm tired. Which is a lot. I am not a morning person and have to start work early. - Life saver. Using it as an eye cream the product would last forever... Ok not forever ever but a long time. $46:00 may just be worth it...

Averne Micellar Lotion 3 in 1: I love cutting corners and having the best outcome, This product does just that. It removed all makeup and cleansed my skin. Love! - $32.95 Worth it. It would last a long time too.

What I didn't care for:

Rimmel BB Cream, It was thick, wouldn't blend and looked cakey, I had high hopes for this product but I hated it, I felt like I was wearing a mask and it felt oily too touch.
I wore it to work to give it a full day workout and my boss noticed how bad it was and commented, how embarrassing. Maybe its not suitable to my skin type but it definitely was a no go for me.

Australian Bush Flower Essence Body Love Moisturizer the smell, while sweet was too much for me. I prefer lotions with subtle smells or not at all. Fragrance can be a real problem in cosmetics. It's a no go for me.

Overall thoughts for the box this month:

I loved the box for April. This was my first Bella Box and to be honest I didn't have high hopes for it. I saw some past reviews of others customers and it didn't seem that interesting but for $15:00, cancel any time it was worth giving it a go and I am so glad I did.

Lust Have It - April

Posted by Sarchie at 12:14 AM 0 comments
This months products included:

What I was excited about:

Rachel K - CC Cream, Aveda Shampoo and Conditioner & Gosh Eyeshadow

What surprised me:

Pink Tiger Gauze. This is a fantastic product, no one likes lint in their freshly done almost-perfect makeup (except for that tiny smudge of mascara)  to be ruined by lint. It has my vote.

What I didn't care for:

Gosh Eye-Shadow. I was so excited about this product, people have been raving for a long time about their makeup, so when I received their eyeshadow I thought I was the luckiest girl in the world... Unfortunately lI found that the quality was lacking.  RRP $16.00 to me is not worth the money. The eye shadow was chalky, too glittery and not very pigmented. The colour was very pretty to look at but it was way too sheer to be a quality eyeshadow. - Maybe there are better quality ones out there and I just happened to get one that was very nice.

Molton Brown Patchouli and Saffron Body Wash. I did not like the smell of this item, however the rest of their body-wash products might be worth trying - But for $39.00? I'm not sure about the price.

What I’d be interested in trying/buying full size product:

Rachel K - CC cream. All the hype may be worth the $39.00
It feels like you are not wearing anything at all, it's got some good coverage and a powder like finish once set.

Overall thoughts for the box this month:

This months box was a good one, I got to try some products that I would not have brought myself (without testing first), I found some new brands and products that I would like to try out. Some of the products can not be reviewed in full  as I only have a sample size and it may take multiple uses, E.G. Shampoos take a couple of weeks to see a difference, same with things like moisturizers and lotions. So these are my first impressions reviews.

Recently I came across the words "Beauty Box," apparently you can spend $15 -$25 a month and some companies send you beauty samples to try out O_o and apparently this has been happening for quite some time (at least two years), right under my nose. Hair Treatments - Stripping Product and Excess Oils From Your Hair

Posted by Sarchie at 11:13 PM 0 comments
This is the best way I know of to strip product build-up and excess oil from your hair without buying costly products.

Ingredients: Bi-carb Soda (any brand will do)

There is two ways that I do it:

Lather: once a fortnight I mix 2 teaspoons of bicarb soda with 3 teaspoons of shampoo (any shampoo) in a jar/saucer, the amount of each will depend on the length of hair and thickness, I have medium length hair.
Lather the shampoo/bi-carb mix through your hair as you normally would. Condition the ends of your hair only (only if needed). I do not use conditioner this time, Conditioner puts product back into the hair. If you find that your hair is super dry or tangled use a leave in conditioner instead.

The other thing you can do is make up a hair mask out of Bicarb soda and water.

Mask: Mix Bi-Carb Soda and water into a paste, enough to cover your whole hair, leave in for 10 - 20 minutes and wash out. You can use shampoo and minimal conditioner upon rinsing the mask out.  - this mask should only be used once a month and only if needed. This can dry the hair and scalp out.

Having fine hair I have a lot of problem with dye sticking to my hair and a lot of supermarket brands on shampoo coat the hair, closing off the pores. I use this hair mask before dying to strip all product blocking the pores and prep the hair for the solution. Some hair dies can make the hair even drier so make sure to use the casting cream that comes with the hair dye. (if dying yourself)

Acne Be Gone - Home Made Face Mask

Posted by Sarchie at 11:47 PM 0 comments

This is my Favourite home-made facial mask!!! It is very easy and inexpensive to make, you might even have the ingredients in your kitchen pantry, Go Check!

I don't say that this will work for everyone, but maybe trying this is worth a shot. It worked for me, no more expensive shop brought products for me (who knows what chemicals are in some of the products on the market).

Ingredients:
Honey

Cinnamon

Combine three teaspoons of honey and 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, stir.
Microwave for up to 30 seconds (depending on microwave), microwave in 3-4 second batches  if you are unsure, we only want the honey heated up. It should resemble melted chocolate.

Note: Honey heats up very fast, make sure to test it on your wrist before applying to your face, you don't want to scald your face. Remember, hot honey is not your friend!

Once heated, apply an even coat to the face. I apply mine with a foundation brush, a lot cleaner then using your hands, but you can use what ever.
Wait 10 minutes and wash off. Skin feels soft, baby-bottom-like and refreshed.
I apply my mask before showering and wash off in circular motions, the cinnamon gently exfoliates dead skins cells.

This mask is great for acne prone skin and is gentle enough to be used daily. Alternatively you can apply to problem areas before bed and rinse in the morning. Please be advised if you sleep like I do (Tossing and turning all night) this is probably not an ideal way to do it, Also if you have ant problems in your kitchen, you will now have them in your bedroom.

Honey & Cinnamon are a great combination for acne problems. Honey has natural antibacterial properties and will sooth and calm problem skin. Cinnamon will bring oxygen and blood to surface, drying out the oil that causes pimples.

I highly advise to use ground Cinnamon rather than Cinnamon Essential Oil, the Essential Oil is very potent  and can cause skin rashes and discomfort (The essential oil would be better used in large batches of cosmetics and lotions etc)

WARNING:  If you have any allergies to Cinnamon or Honey DO NOT USE this mask! In-fact stay right away from anything containing these ingredients.

Chi Chi Pre Foundation Flawless Face Skin Primer

Posted by Sarchie at 11:25 PM 1 comments

I brought this primer from Myer about 12 months ago for $39.95. I had been looking for a full face primer, and this one promised many things

Description From the Website: (I have misplaced the original packaging)
Create the perfect canvas for flawless face foundation application with this silky, oil free and paraben free, hydrating skin primer. Enriched with Hyaluronic spheres this primer visibly improves the look, texture and tone of the skin by filling, plumping and smoothing out fine lines and pores leaving a fresh face complexion. Suitable for all skin types this lightweight primer will make your make up last longer and may even be worn alone on non- make up days for a natural, healthy velvety smooth finish.

My Opinion:

I really like this product; It is very light weight, glides on smoothly and feels like you're not wearing anything at all. As a silicone based product people might expect an oily residue on the skin, but it soaks into the skin; smoothing lines and filling pores leaving the skin feeling silky smooth.
It has a pump for easy application,  one pump will usually cover the whole face. With this primer I will get a full day out of my make up. I would recommend using an eye-primer such as, Naked Decays Eyeshadow Primer Potion around the eye area as this is probably its only weak point.

I moisturize before applying the primer, it doesn't hydrate the skin enough to be used in place of a moisturizer. For best results apply Moisturizer up to 30 mins before applying primer. The moisturize will be well and truly absorbed, leaving no oily/creamy residue behind.
It works well with liquid and mineral foundations. Liquid foundations glide on over the top, blending with ease and mineral foundations stick to it giving it a good even coverage.

I would recommend this for all skin types but more for people aged 20+ (if younger, with really dry skin). The silicone works really well for anti-aging the skin. A big thumbs up in my book.
I don't use this product for everyday make-up. I use it for special occasions and long days in harsh weather conditions (summer is a really good time to use it).  The only reason I don't use it every day is that it is quite costly.

Price:$39.95

Rating: 4 / 5

Where to Buy: Myer, Target or from their website Chi Chi Cosmetics
